The Director of Public Works reported that it
was desirable to complete the road from the Peak tram-station to High West.The completion of this road would be a great pu- blic boop, as the temporary road had already become dangerous, and he pointed out that as many new building sites would be
opened out by the formation of the road, the Government would
probably within a year. recover. the cost of construction.His
Excellency the Officer Administering the Government also stated that the completion of the road would give easy access to a spot which would be useful as a rifle-range.
Mr.Chater addressed the Council on the subject
› of certain Public Works: Extraordinary, which he stated should have been taken in hand in fulfilment of an implied promise
by Sir Henry Blake.Mr.Chater

His Excellency the Governor, the Colonial: Treasurer, the Director
of Public Works and himself were present, and at which His Ex- 'cellency stated that the anticipated surplus revenue for the
year would be applied in part towards the commencement of those public works. which the Unofficial Members of Legislative
- Council- were: unanimously agrzed should be undertaken' immediate-
ly, and which had been struck out of the Estimates for the cur-
rent year in order to balance the Budget.Mr.Chater stated that
the works referred to were the extension of waterworks at Tytan,
the new Law Courts, a new No.7 Police Station, the road to High West, the road from Castle. Peak to Pingshan, a chair shelter
at the Peak, and the completion of the improvement of the
Wongneichong
